Administrative Geography of the Faelish Isles
The Administrative Geography of the Faelish Isles is complex, multi-layered, semantic and non-uniform. The Valanian Federate, a sovereign island state of the Atlantic Ocean, consists of 11 Member States. For local government within the federation, each independent state has their own system of administrative and geographic demarcation. Consequently, there is no uniform administrative unit that can be described as the common building block of the government of the Faelish Isles in general. Although the Member States are important for internal administrative purposes, they are not comparable to first-level administrative subdivisions of most other countries.
Broadly speaking the subnational divisions of the Isles have historically been unitary municipalities in the Latin Coast, counties in the Midlands, and regional councils in the Vincennes Basin and along The Shore.
