The Vetial States were the indigenous polities of the Ferraione Archipelago from about 1000 until 1843, when the last fell to Sânts-Nemhora during the War of the House of Parmeno. The rulers of the states were vetia (admirals). The local magistrates of the towns dispensed justice, and eventually inherited domain of their cities and islands, in loose confederation with each other against mainland interests under leadership of the vetials.
